Dorset dweller Lawrence Bachell, better known as Vektah, arrived on our radar with his debut self-released single ‘Fire In Your Eyes’ in February 2021. It received solid support from new blood including Charli Brix and Levela alongside heavyweights such as DJ Marky. His introduction to the Soulvent fanbase came just 3 months later, on the first edition of the ‘Tonics’ VA EP series with ‘Request’. These accomplished productions quickly had us pining after a more substantial release, and after nearly 12 months of hard work, we’re incredibly excited to present his first 4-track EP titled ‘Culture Shift’.

Kicking things off is ‘Escape’; opening with shimmering synths, calming chimes of marimba and heavily processed vocals. This sense of calm is short lived however, as we’re suddenly drop-kicked by huge roars of rave-rallying bass, the kind Vektah is fast becoming known for. This wobbling amuse-bouche is a flavourful opener, and is sure to cause quite the commotion down at your local discotheque.

Next up, we’re treated to the rousing strings of ‘Solar Flares’, which are quickly flanked by a bleeping arpeggio, articulating a nice juxtaposition of organic and digital elements. The driving, powerful bassline is reminiscent of the late 2000’s, and this is the standout dancefloor track on the EP, which we hope to hear plenty of this Summer.

The penultimate tune, aptly named ‘Tension’, is a ball of moody energy from the get-go. A keen sense of foreboding quickly develops, as the bubbling, acid-infused arpeggio grows in intensity.

Its weighty-drop seemingly comes out of nowhere and is ripe with wide rides, swathes of bass and a palpable sense of sonic space.

Last up, Lawrence links up with long-time friend, first-time collaborator SKG for ‘Humdrum’ - the most decidedly liquid offering on the project. The swirling atmospheres of the intro pave the way for a dreamy first drop and its intricate half-time drum pattern. This is quickly followed up by seriously high energy, think-break laden drums that provide perfect foundation for the swelling bassline, delivering serious Dawn Wall type vibes.

One thing that is clear, is that Lawrence’s trajectory bears no signs of veering off course, if this varied 4-track wonder is anything to go by. Get some culture in your life, available in all good stores from 30th July.
